The Devouring Curse

When I was a kid, more than half a century ago, earthquakes were a very rare occurrence. However, nowadays, multiple earthquakes are occurring all over the world, almost every day. Jesus said one of the signs of His coming would be an increase of earthquakes (Matthew 24:7).

The world is also currently experiencing multitudes of natural disasters across the entire planet. In addition to the earthquakes, we are seeing an onslaught of massive flooding, landslides, volcanic eruptions, extreme heat and violent storms that are wreaking havoc upon the earth.

The prophet Isaiah warned of this time in earth’s history. He also gave the reasons for it. Man’s sin and rebellion against God’s laws and their rejection of the “everlasting covenant” is enabling the release of “the curse” upon the inhabitants of the world. -

The earth also is defiled under the inhabitants thereof, because they have transgressed the laws, changed the ordinance, broken the everlasting covenant.
Therefore has the curse devoured the earth, and they that dwell therein are desolate: therefore the inhabitants of the earth are burned, and few men left. – Isaiah 42:5,6

God cursed the ground after Adam and Eve broke His commandment (Genesis 3:17). That particular judgment stopped the earth from producing everything man needed on its own, requiring him to work the land for his survival. God also ordained that if His laws were broken, curses would ensure (Deuteronomy 28:15-68). God provided a remedy for those curses by instigating through Moses the tabernacle services where forgiveness could be obtained through animal sacrifices. Those sacrifices were designed to be foreshadows of the last, once for all time sacrifice of the Messiah Jesus. His sacrifice instigated the new everlasting covenant that repairs the damage, so to speak, caused by man’s rebellion against God.

Through faith in Jesus’ atonement for the sins of mankind, all who believe are immune from the “curse of the law,” the curse which ultimately results in the loss of the soul. Those who have accepted Jesus are filled with His Holy Spirit and are gradually changed into the people God wants them to be.

After 2000 years, knowledge of the gospel has spread across the entire earth. Every world leader today has heard the name of Jesus and is aware of the Christian faith of that New Everlasting Covenant. That knowledge is either accepted or rejected. The knowledge of the gospel is either permitted to flow among the people, or it is repressed; and in many cases forcibly, resulting in the deaths and martyrdom of many who refuse to renounce their faith in Jesus and the covenant of eternal life He has given them.

The rejection of Jesus and the gospel is one of the triggers that has released the massive catastrophes we are witnessing on the news and the internet almost on a daily basis.

According to the prophecies in the book of Revelation, what we are seeing today is only the “beginning of sorrows” as Jesus forewarned (Matthew 24:8). The book of Revelation also shows us that God has given mankind the choice that can put an end to all the weather mayhem. He tells us that if people will repent and stop their sinning, their transgression of His laws, then the plagues that are the result of their sin will cease. The text lists five specific things: idolatry, murder, sorceries (this can mean witchcraft and/or drug use) fornication, and thefts (Rev. 9:20,21).

But the prophecy goes on to say that mankind will not repent, and their stubborn insistence on having things their own way will propel the world into a horrific time unequaled in human history; The Great Tribulation. If you think things are bad now, well, it’s not going to get any better.

God is giving the people what they want, a world without Him. And that means it is a world that is designed to fail. The evil that man permits through his own rejection of the one true God and His Messiah Jesus, will shred the ground like scissors and will continue to enable its eruptions until God says, “Enough!” Then Jesus will return and destroy the wicked who have caused so much harm (Rev. 19, Zechariah 14). God is not mocked, mankind will reap what it has sown (Galatians 6:7).

The last man-made empire, the prophesied one world government which is the “beast” of Revelation thirteen, will crumble to its knees before the Savior; the arrogant will be humbled and all those who remain will submit to Jesus at last.

That is the future described in the scriptures and Bible prophecies have always been 100% accurate. We are currently witnessing the beginning of the fulfillment of those prophecies every day.

As you look at the world at this moment, can you say that you are among those who are the cause, or are you one of many who are trying to bring the solution by proclaiming the soul saving gospel of hope that Jesus brings? It’s a choice you need to make. Are you going to just stand there facing the oncoming torrent of a tsunami, a volcanic eruption, or a tornado’s fury? Or will you accept the free gift of eternal life that Jesus offers?

It is a certainty that none of us will survive this life. The curse of death is a reality. The difference is, will your soul survive the catastrophe, or will it rise into heaven’s embrace?

If you want to escape the rampages of the earth’s violent responses to man’s iniquity, sign your name to the covenant of everlasting life, by believing that Jesus died for your sins, and that He rose from the dead to give you eternal life. Repent of your sins and be willing to let Him change you into the person He wants you to become. Receive Him as your Lord and Savior.

If you make that act of faith that enables you to enter the Lord’s lifeboat, then whatever storms mankind’s sins have unleased in your direction, you can stand facing them unafraid, because you know your sins are forgiven, you are accepted and your soul is going to live forever.

For God so loved the world, that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him should not perish, but have everlasting life.
For God did not send His son into the world to condemn the world; but that the world through Him might be saved. John 3:16,17.
