Question: Is Homosexuality a Sin?

Answer: First of all I want to begin by saying that all homosexuals are valuable people that Jesus gave His life to save. All human beings should be treated with respect and kindness.

With that being stated, I will go on to say that the practice of homosexual behavior is the sin of fornication. The entire counsel of the word of God teaches that sex is to be performed only between a married man and woman, no exceptions. Therefore any sex act performed outside of that context is sin.

A heterosexual who has sex outside of the Biblical context is also committing the sin of fornication.

So to answer your question, “Is homosexuality a sin?" the answer is yes, because they are committing the sin of fornication.

Question: Why is homosexuality called an "Abomination" in scripture?

Answer: Homosexuality is referred to as an abomination in God’s Word (Leviticus 18:22) because of the element of rebellion involved in the practice. It is important to understand that the practice of homosexuality is called abomination and not the people that God loves and gave His Son to save.

God has used the sacred union of man and woman to illustrate the relationship between Himself and His people (Isaiah 54:5, Jeremiah 3:14,31:32). God created the male to be unified with the female and when that order is violated, the holy spiritual significance of the union of man with woman and the union with God it represents is destroyed. Therefore, when the holy representation of man with woman is distorted, it is deemed an abomination because of the divine principle that marriage between male and female is designed to represent.

For this cause shall a man leave his father and mother, and shall be joined unto his wife, and they two shall be one flesh. This is a great mystery: but I speak concerning Christ and the church –Ephesians 5:31,32

God gave His laws originally to separate His people from the practices of the heathen nations around them. He still desires that His people glorify Him by allowing Him to conform believers into the image of Christ to create a holy, separated people.

When we operate in opposition to the will of God we end up mocking Him with lifestyles that He has not ordained and “Do not be deceived; God is not mocked: for whatsoever a man sows, that shall he also reap.” – Galatians 6:7
