And your ears shall hear a word behind you saying, “This is the way, you walk in it when you turn to the right hand, and when you turn to the left.” – Isaiah 30:21
A pastor I met heard the Holy Spirit tell him to go to a specific nursing home to pray with a person there who received no visitors. The pastor obeyed, and he and his wife went to the nursing home.
The pastor told the receptionist that there was someone there who received no visitors and that the Lord had told him to come there and pray with that person.
“I can’t give you that information,” he was told.
The pastor responded, “I know that person is here. The Lord told me, and I was sent to pray.”
The receptionist leaned toward him and whispered the room number.
The pastor and his wife entered the room of a ninety-year old woman who was dying of cancer. Her room was sparse, no flowers or cards.
She responded well to the pastor’s offer to pray. He asked her where she had gone to church before.
“I didn’t go,” she replied.
Then prompted by the Holy Spirit he asked, “Where did you go when you were a child?”
“Oh, I was a Baptist and I went all the time.”
Then she began to open up and share her story. She had married a Catholic boy and they started going to her church, but her husband was rejected because he was a Catholic. So they went to the Catholic church, but she was rejected because she was a Baptist, then they stopped going anywhere.
Saddened by the ignorance of the people who had rejected both her and her husband, the pastor continued to minister to her and led her back to the Lord.
He visited her again on Good Friday and brought her a chocolate rabbit. He told her that he wanted her to have a good Easter.
“Oh, I will have a good Easter,” she told him with a smile.
She went home to be with the Lord on Easter Sunday.
I have heard many other testimonies from Christians who were able to minister in situations that would otherwise have been neglected if it had not been for their ability and willingness to hear the Still Small Voice of the Lord.
Are you willing to seek and listen for the silent sound of God’s heart to yours?
