"Happy Easter!"

I am the resurrection and the Life, whoever lives and believes in Me, though he were dead, yet shall he live: And whosoever lives and believes in Me shall never die. Do you believe this? – John 11:25,26

I was standing in line at a post office when I heard the woman who was ahead of me wish the clerk a cheerful, “Happy Easter!” as she completed her transaction and left. I thought it was strange because it was the week before Thanksgiving and Easter was still many months away. The clerk who knew her told me that he thought she was a little off mentally. That was possible, but as I was thinking about this incident during the day, it occurred to me, that if she was a Christian, and her hope is in the glorious resurrection of our Lord, the celebration of Easter isn’t something that a Christian observes only once a year; it is a joyous celebration in the heart and the motivation of the Christian life. No matter what season it happens to be in the winters of this world, we are always living in the springtime of hope.

The celebration of the empty tomb that promises us the reality of eternal life, produces a joy that cannot be contained. Dwelling in that season of hope and renewal, it shouldn’t be considered a strange thing that someone who is daily rejoicing in the God given gift of eternal springtime, should wish to bestow to everyone at any time a spontaneous reminder that there is a “Happy Easter!”
