The Spirit of Jezebel

"But I have this against you, that you tolerate the woman Jezebel, who calls herself a prophetess, and she teaches and leads My bond-servants astray, so that they commit acts of immorality and eat things sacrificed to idols. And I gave her time to repent; and she does not want to repent of her immorality. Behold, I will cast her upon a bed of sickness, and those who commit adultery with her into great tribulation, unless they repent of her deeds. And I will kill her children with pestilence; and all the churches will know that I am He who searches the minds and hearts; and I will give to each one of you according to your deeds." Revelation 2:20-23

She will be the prevailing spirit in the church in these last days and her goal is to seduce the servants of God away from the absolutes of the Truth. She is the spirit of Jezebel, the spirit of compromise. Under the guise of reaching the lost, she mixes within her cup a formula for deception. It is a pleasing concoction of sugarcoated doctrines and they go down very smoothly. If it is sipped slowly over a long period of time, the effects of the intoxication are not noticed until this spirit has firmly entrenched herself in church life. She is successful, because her methods bring many into the church.

This spirit is of the world and loves the world and her goal is to keep those who should be seeking discipleship and a deeper spiritual life earth-bound. She puts an emphasis in her doctrines on money and success. She de-emphasizes repentance and humility, because she is an arrogant, prideful spirit and wants her children to be conformed into her image and not the image of Christ. Holiness is not an issue in her churches and the fear of God is diminished. As a result her children are prone to sexual sin, and although there are no obvious statues of idols to sacrifice to in our modern churches, her children can no longer discern the difference between what is clean and unclean and they eat without discretion.

Because she has removed repentance from her menu, slowly, and subtly, she deftly severs Jesus from His cross and eliminates access to His Grace, because without genuine repentance Grace cannot be applied, for God resists the proud who cannot confess they have sinned. There are no sins in Jezebel’s churches, for her people do not sin, they merely make mistakes. The concept of offending God by doing the things He forbids is almost non-existent.

Jezebel loves a party and her churches are very entertaining. Worship becomes a show. God’s Spirit withdraws, virtually unnoticed and no one realizes that they have been left on their own.

Jezebel promises an easy road; for no hardship can come from God she assures them. She negates His testimony of judgment to her offspring as she promises them that God will not cause them to suffer infirmity, oh no, He doesn’t operate that way. She states it definitely with her thumb concealing the verses she doesn’t want her children to see. So when their sins have opened the door to judgment, many fall away, disappointed in this God that Jezebel has portrayed. And this has been her goal all along, you see, to remove the foundations that can keep the true believer standing.

We listen to this spirit because on the outside she is beautiful and alluring. We cannot see the death she camouflages so cleverly. And those who have been led by this spirit will someday face the Lord they thought they were serving and cry, But Lord, Lord haven’t we cast out demons in Your name and done many wonderful works? And the Lord replies, "Depart from Me, I never knew you." And as He turns away He is sobbing.
