Question: How Do I Get Rid of a Jezebel Spirit?

Answer: Whether a Jezebel spirit is in an individual or an entire church, the method for treatment is the same – emphasize everything that this spirit is not, create a spiritual environment that this spirit cannot function in and it will be repelled. In order to do this we must understand what this spirit is all about.

The spirit of Jezebel is a counterfeit of the true bride of Christ. It operates with a veneer of Christianity, but it is the exact opposite of the Truth as revealed in the Holy Scriptures. This spirit is of the world and loves the world and in its guise of “spirituality” seeks to seduce the church into union with the world. The spirit of Jezebel is the spirit of compromise. This description is defined for us in Revelation 2:20 –

Notwithstanding I have a few things against thee, because you tolerate that woman Jezebel, who calls herself a prophetess, to teach and to seduce my servants to commit fornication, and to eat things sacrificed to idols.

Jezebel teaches her followers to “eat things sacrificed to idols,” which means that the ones whose minds are blinded by this spirit can no longer discern between what is clean and unclean. Sexual sin usually follows in the wake of this deception.

The cross may be part of this spirit’s vocabulary, but there is no real understanding of the atonement - and repentance; which is the Biblical means of appropriating grace, is non-existent in Jezebel’s theology, or it is greatly diminished.

In order to overcome this spirit, the church must return to the simplicity of the first century emphasis, which is –

1. Repentance – a true, Biblical repentance that teaches that a believer must be willing to turn from his sin.

2. Holiness – We must be willing to submit to Christ and allow His Spirit to conform us to His image.

3. Separation – Love not the world, neither the things that are in the world. If any man loves the world, the love of the Father is not in him. For all that is in the world, the lust of the flesh, and the lust of the eyes, and the pride of life, is not of the Father, but is of the world. And the world passes away, and the lust thereof: but he that does the will of God abides for ever. I John 2:15-17.

The Jezebel spirit abhors absolutes, and the goal of this spirit is to eventually eradicate the absolute authority of the word of God which affirms that Jesus is the only way to the Father.

Encounters with this spirit can sometimes result in oppression and depression and an overwhelming sense of wanting to give up. This was evident in Elijah's spiritual attack after his victory in eradicating Jezebel's prophets (I Kings 19:2 -4). In spiritual warfare like this it is always important to bind spirits of retaliation and destruction. These retaliations occur more frequently when we are tired and not eating properly. It has been my experience in attacks like this, that the oppression leaves quickly when the source is recognized as a Jezebel spirit and rebuked in the name of Jesus.

When the Jezebel spirit is operating in an individual, the victim must gently be brought into an understanding of this spirit and then be willing to bind the spirit in Jesus' name and rebuke its influence. As in all deliverance, unless there is a genuine willingness to eliminate this spirit, it will remain. Believers in Jesus have authority over all demonic spirits, and until the victim recognizes the Jezebel spirit's influence, the spirit can be addressed and commanded not to operate in Jesus' name.

While this spirit can also manifest in men, it is most common in women. This is a controlling, manipulative, power-loving spirit, and individuals with this spirit should not be allowed in positions of authority in the church.

The Jezebel spirit will be the prevailing spirit in the church in the last days and God is calling His remnant out of her embrace.

In Revelation sixteen and seventeen we are shown Babylon as both a city (the world system) and the compromised Jezebel infected church and they are judged as one. Jezebel’s children are judged as the world is judged, because they have refused to separate themselves from the things that the Lord hates.

It is up to those who proclaim to know Christ to discern this spirit and cast it out. As Jehu cried – “Who is on my side? Who?” (II Kings 9:32,33) – the eunuchs obeyed Jehu’s commanded to “throw her down” and Jezebel was cast out from within and destroyed. The Lord is crying out to us as the voice of Jehu – “Who is on My side?” – And those who can hear His voice, will cast the spirit of Jezebel out of the sanctuary of our hearts and our churches.
